YOH Gallery
Yonkers residents Mark Pittman and Laura Fahrenthold are helping to put Getty Square, Yonkers on the map as an emerging art scene by producing a series of art shows featuring 35 artists from the Tri-State area, live performance art, a surprise band, our secret signature dish, and more.
The ambition is to promote public recognition of Yonkers-on-Hudson as a thriving area in which to live, work, create, and raise forward-thinking families. The area's renovations are already under way, as evidenced by the new
$56 million library, $35 million historically renovated train station, new restaurants including the upcoming 4-star, Xaviar's on the pier, as well as other development projects. There are currently hundreds of artist live/work lofts and condos under construction in renovated warehouse buildings.
Our goal is to host a series of three-day art shows in which we showcase emerging and established artists' flat works and other high-end works of art (hand-blown glass, pottery, photography, prints, sculpture, etc.) The address of our 10,000 sq.
foot art space is 24 Main Street, on the corner of Warburton Ave., Yonkers in Getty Square. Take Metro-North train to Yonkers (25 minutes from Grand Central) and walk two blocks.
The most recognized artist will be internationally-known Richard Anuszkiewicz, a father of op art. Some of the emerging artists include D. Shayne Aldrich from Harlem, who takes found objects to create his provocative sculptures and Brooklyn glass artist, Anne Gant, who burns hot glass onto paper for an unusual affect. Another artist, Madeline Hope Arthurs, works at the Wall St. Journal by day drawing the front page dot portraits.
Her fine art represents NY street scenes in amazing photography collages.
Once settled, we (y.o.h.), an acronym for Yonkers-on-Hudson, hope to create enough buzz to open the area's first art gallery by 2006.
Event guests are coming from all over: DUMBO, Soho, LIC, Chelsea, and Williamsburg as well as Hudson and Beacon, NY. We expect at least 1,500 people to attend between Friday, June 3 and Saturday, June 4 from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday afternoon from noon to 5 p.m.
Invitations will be sent by early May. We look forward to seeing you there.
Please feel free to forward this pre-email to friends/art supporters and to reach out to them with invites when the time comes. Our website is still under construction, www.yohgallery.com but check in to see how it’s going.
