The Empire State Games Cycling Events Want You to Volunteer

Through the meticulous effort of Battle Hill resident Mark Lalloo, the wheels are officially in motion for the cycling events during The Empire State games to be held here in Westchester County July 25 through 29th. The Empire State Games is one of the largest sports competitions in the country bringing in almost 6,000 participants, and economic benefit to the host county.

Mark’s job as, Assistant Coach is to assist at the regional trials for the sport, submit team player information to the Regional Director, conduct practices, chaperone the team at the finals, and be the ‘mapper’ of the routes. Recently, Mark hosted the first organizational meeting for the cycling events at the Westchester County Center. With only four paid employees, The Empire State Games group relies on volunteers like our city residents to help at the events.

Mark he has already been in meetings with local municipalities and White Plains officials regarding the events. Working together they are defining road closures and identifying potholes that will need repair along the routes.

Volunteers are needed for all events. Early morning risers are needed to help officials with registration and numbers pick-up. Support vehicle drivers are needed to transport the officials, and supervisors, or vehicles following with spare wheels and tools if assistance is needed. On Saturday July 29th, downtown White Plains needs at least 45 volunteers for the biggest bike race featured in our downtown areas of Hamilton Ave, Mamaroneck Ave, Quarropas St, and South Lexington Ave.

With the events expecting about 150 – 200 participants a day, White Plains residents have a great opportunity to showcase its hospitality to the thousands of athletes and neighbors visiting from throughout our Empire State.
