Milt Gerver Orchestra on the Playland Boardwalk Friday Nights in July and August
Everybody get ready to rumba! – and jitterbug, lindy, and mambo – when the Milt Gerver Orchestra re-creates the sounds of the Big Band era on Friday evenings this summer, from 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m., on the boardwalk at Playland Park in Rye.
The orchestra will perform on Fridays, July 13, 20, 27 and August 3. August 10 is reserved as a rain date for any of the scheduled performances.
Enjoy the music made famous by immortal bandleaders like Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey against the backdrop of moonlight dancing across the water as the orchestra performs classic favorites, from high-energy romps like “In the Mood†and “The Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Company B†to the romantic strains of “Stardust†and “Moonlight Serenade.â€
As an added bonus, watch as fireworks are displayed over Long Island Sound during the park’s weekly displays, beginning at 9:15 p.m.
A regular summer favorite at Playland Park, the 15-piece Milt Gerver Orchestra features two vocalists. The band’s repertoire ranges from popular favorites from the Big Band era to the contemporary sounds of today’s disco and hot Latin music. The Milt Gerver Orchestra has performed throughout the tri-state area including Greenwich Country Club in Connecticut and the Hilton and Hyatt Hotels in New York City.
Admission to Playland and the Big Band performances is free. Parking is $5 on Friday evening, $1 for senior citizens with a Westchester County Park Pass or senior citizen identification card.
