Garrison Art Center Hosts CURRENT: A Sculpture Tour
Cindy Beer-Fouhy - February 28, 2008Garrison, NY: Building on the successful premiere launch of their outdoor summer exhibition last year, Garrison Art Center will host their second expanded annual summer sculpture exhibition, CURRENT: A Sculpture Tour, on view June 1st through August 11th. The exhibition, which last year was set at four landmark Garrison sites, will include a fifth site and exhibit artwork from regional artists as well as artists of national and international notoriety selected by a jury of three distinguished art authorities. read more »

You probably already heard the story some time last year about the guy who bought a rare copy of the Declaration of Independence at a thrift store for $2.98. Well this guy now has an historical document on his hands that is valued at $250,000 - $350,000 which he wants to sell.
White Plains rare document dealer Seth Kaller received a call earlier this week from the new owner of the thrift shop purchase, asking Mr. Keller to handle the lucrative auction of the newly discovered rare find. read more »
Roberta Friedman Designs a New Life
Adrienne Pincus - February 27, 2006It was almost fifteen years into her teaching career as an elementary school teacher that White Plains resident Roberta Friedman took a sabbatical. While attending classes in music and art at College of New Rochelle during sabbatical, Roberta noticed many students on campus were wearing little beaded bracelets which, as she recalls, "were really hard to close." Roberta believed she had the artistic eye to create a more beautiful design than what was the trend. Little did she know at the time, a career change was about to occur, and she would become a bridge jewelry designer with an international presence. read more »
A Field Guide to Sprawl
Scott Higgins - February 15, 2006A Field Guide to Sprawl - currently on display at The Art Exchange Building, is a fascinating study of twentieth century urban development patterns in the United States. The exhibit consists of about three dozen aerial photographs of freeways, factories, shopping malls, subdivisions and stadiums by Jim Wark accompanied by descriptive texts by Yale Architecture professor Dolores Hayden. The texts identify each development phenomenon - gridlock, NIMBY, BANANA, McMansion, Zoomburb - like an Audubon guide identifies birds; the concept and texts for the show come from a book of the same name. read more »
